Hardwood flooring has plenty of options

The main question you should be asking yourself is whether you’ll need solid hardwood flooring, engineered flooring, or a combination of both. The solid option provides flooring that is one solid piece of the same material throughout its entirety. Engineered wood places a veneer of real wood between a backing layer and a protective top coat. While solid wood is certainly a preferred option, it can never be installed below ground level, and that’s where engineered flooring comes in.

Engineered flooring offers the ability to maintain the all-wood look throughout your home, while still providing you with an excellent flooring material. It looks just as good, is easier to care for, and it can still be refinished at least once before replacement is necessary.

With solid wood, you can choose from a variety of species, stain colors and finish types. While you can do the same with engineered floors, your options are a bit more limited. Whereas the solid option can be stained and finished on site, engineered versions cannot. Also, solid hardwood can be finished several times over its long lifespan, meaning you’ll get far more floor for your budget.

Installing these products should always be left to a professional installation team. While there are many tutorials available for all manner of flooring installation, your investment deserves the best protection possible.
